European coaching strategies which have been developed on slower surfaces put more emphasis on the following qualities and we feel there is a need for tennis coaching to teach these qualities in Australia/ Perth to teach players to learn the modern game of tennis.
-
- Racquet speed development: The courts play at a slower pace these days and makes the balls feel heavier. Less pace is transferred between players, forcing them to create their own power. Maximum acceleration, to create a heavy topspin and power ball.
- Consistency: A hallmark of European players is consistency from the baseline. The majority of training is done around the baseline working on rock solid groundstrokes that never miss.
- Anticipation/tactical development: The points/rallies are typically longer and quick shot combinations will not win points as easily.
- Stamina development: Longer points/rallies forces the player to become more fit.
- Better touch and feel: There are more opportunities to hit drop shots and feel shots since you have to out maneuver players.
- Mental toughness and resilience: Because of the increased need to become more fit and strong, players who are able to learn to suffer and outlast opponents more often become tough. They become stronger fighters.
- Physical/muscular endurance: Longer rallies = more swings.
